З ініціативи патріотичних сил Хотинщини та за участі міського голови, директора Хотинської гімназії, духовенства та громади міста відбулося Хотинське віче, на якому обговорювалося питання щодо встановлення на Центральній площі, біля Хотинської РДА пам’ятника Т.Г.Шевченку.
Відомо, що напередодні відбулося громадське слухання, на якому вирішили встановити на Центральній площі пам’ятник Леоніду Каденюку. Патріотичні сили Хотинщини не заперечують щодо встановлення пам’ятника нашому земляку Л.Каденюку та готові долучитися до збору коштів задля встановлення пам’ятника, однак виступають проти його встановлення на Центральній площі, яка є однією із візитівок міста, та вважають, що доречніше встановити там пам’ятник Т.Шевченку. Тому було висловлено пропозицію щодо збору підписів на користь встановлення пам’ятника Шевченку на Центральній площі.
