Його лісовий кордон знаходиться біля 600-річного дуба, що є одним з найстаріших в Україні. Під час сильної грози блискавка влучила якраз у дерево-велетень. Дуб вистояв. Але від вогняного удару відійшла кора, і вздовж 30-метрового стовбура утворилася полоса оголеної деревини.
«Боляче було дивитися на цю рану на дубові, – каже Олександр Тимчук. – Ми одразу взялися рятувати дерево».
Як повідомляє прес-служба Чернівецького ОУЛМГ, хотинський дуб-велетень зараз у задовільному стані.
Нагадаємо, що він має статус пам’ятки природи, занесений до державного реєстру «Стародавні дерева України». Його стовбур в окружності – 10 метрів.
Довкола унікального дуба хотинські лісівники створили рекреаційний майданчик, який під назвою «Багатовіковий дуб-гігант» увійшов в екскурсійні та туристичні маршрути обласного та загальнодержавного значення. Знаходиться прадавній дуб на 26-му кілометрі автотраси «Строїнці-Перебиківці», біля села Малинці Хотинського району (так звана Брусиловська дорога).
Зараз біля диво-дуба колінківецькі лісівники будують капличку.
