У першому турі Ліги націй Україна перемогла Швейцарію, а Іспанія та Німеччина зіграли внічию. Таким чином, після двох турів на першому місці в групі йде Іспанія (4 очки), на другому — Україна (3), на третьому — Німеччина (2), на четвертому — Швейцарія (1).
Українська збірна виступає в новому сезоні турніру у першому дивізіоні (А) — тут грають найсильніші команди Європи.
Загалом на груповому етапі відбудеться шість турів — з кожним із суперників Україна зіграє вдома та на виїзді. За його підсумками команда, яка займе перше місце у квартеті, зіграє з переможцями інших трьох груп у так званому фіналі чотирьох, який і визначить переможця Ліги націй сезону 2020/2021.
Та команда, яка посяде у групі останнє місце, вилетить у нижчий дивізіон. Друге та третє місця групи залишаться у дивізіоні А, але за перемогу у турнірі цього сезону змагатися не будуть.
