Благовіщення Пресвятої Богородиці – євангельська подія і присвячене йому християнське свято; сповіщення архангелом Гавриїлом Діві Марії про майбутнє народження по плоті від неї Ісуса Христа.
Це свято належить до неперехідних свят і відзначається щороку в один і той же квітневий день. У православ’ї належить до числа дванадесятих свят.
Церковне Передання говорить, що в той момент, коли Діві Марії явився Архангел Гавриїл, вона читала книгу пророка Ісаї, саме ті слова про народження Месії.
З Благовіщенням в народі пов’язані деякі старовинні звичаї. Кажуть, що в Благовіщення “птах гнізда не в’є, дівчина коси не плете”, будь-яка робота у цей день вважається гріхом.
