Щороку 22 січня український народ святкує річницю з моменту підписання так званого акту “злуки”, тобто договору про попереднє об’єднання УНР і ЗУНР.
Українська Народна Республіка була створена в січні 1918 року. У цей же час на території, яка раніше входила до складу Австро-Угорщини, утворилася Західноукраїнська Народна Республіка.
Лідери нових держав зустрілися для визначення умов майбутньої злуки 22 січня 1919 року. Ця подія і поклала початок святкуванню Дня соборності України.
Формально цей акт не втілився у створення незалежної держави, проте він став першим кроком до цієї історичної події, яка сталася вже в 1991 році з розпадом СРСР.
У сучасній Україні значення Дня соборності не змінилося.
