Освячення води на площі Пресвятої Марії у Чернівцях відбувається з другої половини 19 століття. Обряд проводили біля криниці на місці, де був вівтар церкви Успення Пресвятої Богородиці до її перенесення.
Свято Йорданського посвячення води довершено із звичайною величавістю та при великім здвизі народу біля Турецької криниці, де целебрував сам митрополит.
