5 липня на Театральній площі Чернівців відбувся пам’ятний мітинг, присвячений 78-ій річниці початку Голокосту та депортацію чернівецьких євреїв.
Близько 50 нащадків чернівецьких євреїв приїхали до Чернівців, щоб вшанувати пам’ять своїх предків. Крім того, у мітингу взяли участь представники Європейської громади Буковини, міської влади та громадські діячі.
“Сьогодні минуло 78 років, відколи більше 400 євреїв вбили дорогою від Театрольної площі до Філармонії. Ми пам’ятатаємо цей день і саме тому сім’ї тих, кому з великим чудом вдалось залишитись живими, прийшли сюди, щоб вшанувати пам’ять родичів”, – головний рабин Чернівецького регіону Менахем Мендель Гліценштейн.
Місце біля Театральної площі вибрано через те, що смаме там розташований Єврейський народний дім, з якого у липні 1941 року фашистські окупанти відсилали на розстріл керівництво чернівецької єврейської громади.
Закінчився захід гімнами України та Ізраїлю, а згодом усі присутні вирушили траурною ходою шляхом постраждалих євреїв від Театральної площі до Філармонії.
Після цього прившанували загиблих біля братської могили на єврейському кладовищі на вулиці Зеленій. Там поховано 630 євреїв.
