9 травня, в День перемоги над нацизмом у Другій світовій війні, представники Чернівецького обласного військового комісаріату вітали вдома ветеранів, які вже не в змозі долучитися до урочистих заходів з причини поважного віку. Про це інформує прес-служба Чернівецького ОВК.
Найстаршому серед ветеранів, до яких завітав військовий комісар Чернівецького ОВК полковник Віталій Чурай, цьогоріч виповниться 102 роки. Полковник у відставці Матко Володимир Іванович пройшов війну спочатку у складі повітряно-десантної бригади, а надалі артилерійської. У 1941 році він закінчив Мелітопольський державний педагогічний інститут і одразу після випускного відправився на Південно-Кавказький фронт, а далі брав участь у бойових діях на Кримському, Закавказькому та Українському фронтах.
По завершенні війни Володимир Іванович приїхав до Чернівців, одружився та став батьком двох доньок. У мирному житті протягом десятків років працював викладачем, а згодом директором Чернівецького індустріального технікуму.
Сьогодні Володимир Іванович з причин самопочуття не може розповідати про воєнний досвід – зі слів близьких, ці теми викликають у нього надто сильні емоції. Зате доньки з гордістю та любов’ю розповідають про життєвий шлях та військове минуле Володимира Івановича, демонструючи нагороди та фотознімки далеких років.
Рідні кажуть, що Володимир Іванович дуже важко пережив початок війни в 2014 році та шкодував, що вже не може долучитися до захисту країни. Часом, забуваючись, просив дочку дати йому військову форму, спорядження, аби вирушити на фронт… Життєві історії ветеранів вражають, захоплює мужність та відвага, з якою вони, юні хлопці, боролися з ворогом. Вони є гідним прикладом сучасному поколінню.
